This photo of a wild Red Kite was taken in the hills around Rhyader in Mid-Wales.
This species was very common in the British isles at one time. Due to habitat loss and other factors over the last 300 years the species by the 1970's could only be found in tiny numbers around Tregaron in Wales.
A reintroduction program using European stock in various places around the British Isles since that time has been extremely successful.
