What are the best materials to use for making a kite?

I need to make a kite for a geometry project. What materials should I use for assembling it? Also, it is going to be an isosceles trapezoid with flaps on all 4 sides to help give it lift. Will it fly?

Balsa wood for the skeleton and tissue paper for the body or very light weight fabric.
